              Western Ada Recreation District

'

Western Ada Recreation District, called "WARD", wants to dissolve. Watch Chairman Wardle discuss WARD's desire to dissolve with the Ada County Commissioners at their meeting on March 3, 2026.

WARD is a special taxing district. In the 1970s, voters approved creating the district to build a public swimming pool in the Meridian area. Over the years, WARD helped provide many great recreation opportunities for the community.

In 2018, WARD began working with the City of Meridian. As part of this partnership, WARD reduced its tax rate and transferred its assets to the City. Today, WARD no longer owns any assets and exists only as a skeleton entity.

WARD no longer levies any taxes. However, unlike a private business, WARD cannot officially close without a public vote.
